- (born 1945), Nicaraguan statesman; president 1985–90 and from 2007; full name Daniel Ortega Saavedra. He became the leader of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) in 1966 and president after the Sandinista election victory in 1984. He was re-elected president in 2007.
